Pale Hues

Pale Hues_1 Pale Hues_2 Pale Hues_3 Pale Hues_4 Pale Hues_5 Beaded top: Topshop
Shorts: Ralph Lauren (DIY)
Satchel: Vintage
Sandals: Steve Madden
Lips: MAC lipstick in "Watch Me Simmer"
Sunglasses:  Dior
Orchid ring:  BCBG
Mulit layer pearl necklace:  Forever 21

I have a new obsession:  Coral lipstick!  I finally found the perfect coral for my lips.  It's "Watch Me Simmer" from MAC.  I'm addicted.  I only wish it hadn't sold out.  This was my first time wearing it out and I was a bit hesitant at first because I'd never had a coral colored lipstick.

It was incredibly hot that day, so in case you're wondering why my face is shiny...these pictures were taken after my boyfriend and I went on a walk to the creek in the 95% heat. Maybe it was 100%, I don't know lol.  But lucky for me I was wearing my "new" shorts.  They were actually a pair of pants and I made them into something more practical for the hot summer heat.  I was surprised at how easy it was to make them.  Now all I want to do is make shorts out of pants and wear my coral lipstick all day long ;)

Little Black (Lace) Dress

LBD_1 LBD_2 LBD_3 LBD_4

Black lace dress:  Vintage (That guy in the background was a total creep, btw)
Cropped pink cardigan:  French Connection (I love the metallic gold sheen and the ruffles!  So girly)
Black bow pumps:  Dollhouse
Quilted leather purse:  Not labeled (given to me by my friend Annie)
Sunglasses:  Dior
Lipstick:  MAC lipstick in "Dear Diary" (very similar to the ever popular "Candy Yum Yum")

Hi everyone!  I finally got a chance to wear my LBD that I purchased years ago.  I've only worn it a handful of times.  Can you believe that I've had this dress for about 10 years? I bought it at an estate sale.  I actually didn't really want it and my mom made me buy it.  She told me that I'd love it one day.  She was right.  But for the past two years or so this LBD has been sitting in my closet.  Poor thing.  I tend to neglect some of my clothing sometimes.  This super soft, cropped cardigan is also one of those items.

I also got a chance to wear my new lipstick "Dear Diary", from MAC.  Although this deliciously vibrant pink color is sold out in stores,  you can find many of them on eBay.  Be prepared to pay a little extra for it.  This lipstick is a very Barbie-esque pink hue.  One thing that I don't necessarily like about it is that it's very dry.  But it's nothing a little bit of chapstick underneath won't fix :)   I loved the color and it is very similar to "Candy Yum Yum."  The pictures don't do this lipstick justice.  It's actually much more saturated in person.

Hope everyone has a wonderful week!  Thanks for reading and a big WELCOME to my new followers! :D

Aqua & Mint (and a book!)

Aqua & Mint_1 Aqua & Mint_2 Aqua & Mint_3

Blouse: Forever 21
Crochet cardigan:  Bebe (old)
Mint jeans: ASOS
White leather pumps: Nine West
Brooch: Vintage
Lips: Clinique lipstick and lipgloss duo: 18 Mystic and 76 Shy

These pictures were taken yesterday.  The weather was unusually cool for July, so I took advantage of the cool weather and layered up a bit with my look.  It just happened to be an unusually difficult day for myself and my loved ones.  I'm not going to burden you with any details, so let's just keep it at that :)

I wish I could be more open to my followers about my personal life but I don't know if it's right at the moment.  Aside from my own personal issues, I found a dead baby deer at the trail I run on.  That may not mean anything to any of you so let me explain a little.  For about a year on my daily run, I would see a female deer.  I never thought much of it and seeing her just kind of became a part of my every day routine.  Throughout the months I noticed that she became bigger in the stomach area.  I assumed that she was just plump from eating so much.  Some time went by and she kept on getting bigger.  Then one day, I didn't see her at all.   Instead I was delighted to see two newborn baby deer (fawn, but I like to call them "baby deer" because it sounds cuter) in the area that she normally hangs out.  I couldn't believe my eyes!  They were so tiny and cute.  And they were still damp!  It was amazing.  For the next few months I watched them grow.  I would see them just about every day.  I was even able to get a few feet away from the two babies and their mother.  Their mother would just stare at me with her big pretty black eyes and sniff the air.  I would even joke around to my boyfriend and say that they were kind of like my pets...after all, I would see them so often.  But for the last two weeks, I didn't see them.  I kept thinking about them and I was worried.  So it was very hard for me to come across the mangled corpse of a baby deer on the side of the road.  And I can't help but get a little angry at the people who speed up and down that road.  I cried my eyes out when I got home.

I always try to stay positive.  Even when life throws swings at me.  A happy attitude during the darkest times says a lot about your character.  And I happen to be smiling right now :)  I don't like to let things ruin my day (no matter how difficult my day gets).

Anyway, enough about me and my bad day.  As I promised, here is the snippet I was going to share with you guys.  I started reading "Big Brother: The Orwellian Nightmare Come True" by author, activist and media analyst Mark Dice.  You may have heard of him when he made headlines for sending controversial letters to the troops overseas and when he confronted Danny Bonaduce about the attacks on 9/11.   And in this link he asks many Americans why the Fourth of July is celebrated (you'll be embarrassed to hear their responses).  So here is an excerpt from this book that I found to be very eerie and true:

"Where we once discussed politics and religion with our friends and neighbors, such topics have become taboo and are replaced with the enticing entertainment of celebrity news as most people feel that it is more important to know about who our favorite celebrities are dating than it is to know what bills are being introduced and voted on in the halls of Congress or out own city council.  It's interesting that while people seem to be getting dumber, computers are getting smarter.

We are becoming a nation of morons who can't think for themselves, and are being dehumanized into nothing more than a mentally enslaved workforce who are constantly being monitored, databased, and kept in line by the fear of the omniscient Big Brother technology that has gotten so advanced and so cheap, that the watchful eyes of surveillance cameras are mass produced, almost as if they were disposable.

At a presentation at the 2010 DICE Summit (Design, Innovate, Communicate, Entertain), an annual meeting of videogame executives, Jesse Schell, the former Creative Director of the Disney Imagineering Virtual Reality Studio, gave a speech on the future of gaming and talked about how in the future, 'Before too long we're going to get to the point where every soda can, [and] every cereal box is going to be able to have a CPU, a screen, and a camera on board it, and a Wi-Fi connecter so that it can be connected to the Internet.'

He concluded his speech by saying that our children and grandchildren will be able to know exactly what books we've read, what foods we ate, and practically everything we've done in our entire lives.  He gave this speech not to warn people about these Orwellian technologies, but he was extremely excited about them, and looked forward to them.

'You have no idea what books your grandparents read, or where they went on a daily basis, but these sensors that we're going to have on us and all around us everywhere are going to be tracking and watching what we're doing forever,' Schell said.  He concludes by saying that because we will all be constantly watched and our actions and interests databased forcer, that we'll possibly be better people and be nicer and make better decisions because of the fear of judgment from others.  Is this the kind of world you want to live in?  Well, it's the kind of world that's rapidly approaching.

This book is meant to serve as a warning for what is already here, and what is soon to come.  It is to encourage people to think about how to possibly precent or minimize dramatic hazards to our lives by the very technology we have created.  It is my goal to give you an accurate forecast of the coming storm so that you as an individual, and we as a society and species, may be better equipped to handle it when it hits.  It is my hope that we do not lose our privacy, freedom, or our humanity in this 1984-style New World Order."

-Mark Dice

I couldn't have said it better myself.  This is a very interesting and chillingly honest book.  I highly recommend it.

Alright, I think I wrote entirely too much.  That's all for now.  Thank you for reading this (and a big thank you to those of you who actually read every single word on this post...it's really long, I know!).

Have a great Wednesday!

This is a lovely vintage skirt that was passed along to me by my mom.   I love it when she gives me her old clothes!

Hope you guys have a great week! I'm sorry this post is so short. I have SO much going on and even more important stuff I want to share with you all. But I don't have anything planned, so I'll share some other time :) And I know that I haven't been posting as much as I used to. Time is a funny thing when you don't have enough of it.  But on my next post I'll share with you an excerpt from a book I'm currently reading.   I promise!

Black & Gold

Black & Gold_1 Black & Gold_2 Black & Gold _3 Black & Gold_4

Basic black T shirt: Bebe
Flared skirt with petticoat: French Connection "Tallulah" (As seen on Taylor Swift)
Bow pumps: Dollhouse
Leather quilted purse: Vintage
Lips: Mac "Girl About Town"

A quick post before the weekend...

I've had this skirt for a while, but I never wore it until now. The gold embroidered flowers makes for interesting details. And I'm all about the feminine silhouette created by the petticoat.  I'm seriously considering wearing petticoats more often...they're a great way to add volume to a skirt or dress.

Thanks for those of you who shared your opinions about my last post :) Hope you're all having a great week!

On the Fourth

American Flag shorts: Topshop

Fringed Leather purse: XOXO (approx. 10 years old)

This year the Fourth of July was bittersweet for me.  It was an amazing day, but I couldn't help but think about the many negative changes our country is currently going through.  For one, the NDAA (National Defense Authorization Act) still haunts me.  It's so surreal that here in America a "law" could allow our president to become a dictator.  And it's even sadder that so many people are still unaware of it or what it means (basically, our president could murder anyone he wants whenever he wants, without probable cause or a jury).  My mind keeps thinking, If it's gotten this bad in just one year, imagine what it will be like next year!  Ugh...I don't want to think like that or be negative in any way.  I also don't want anyone reading this to think I'm one of those trendy idiots who complain about the luxuries of living in America (ie: "Like OMG #1stWorldProblems lol").  So let me be clear:  I love living here.  I love this country...just not the people who are running it.  While these corrupt politicians (and offshore banks) are busy trying to rape this country of the constitution, remember that we the people are the reason America still exists.  Let's not let our country turn into something that it's not.  Our founding fathers and the constitution are what made us FREE in the first place...so let's keep America free.  Let us not be ignorant or arrogant enough to think that just because we are known as "the land of the free" that something couldn't ever go wrong or that our political leaders would not lead us into more trouble than we're already in.  (Don't forget...THEY created the housing crisis, THEY took away our privacy using the Patriot Act...THEY ruined our economy!  We the people are NOT to blame!)  And now they want to interfere with our free internet by using CISPA...apparently, the "terrorists" will get you through cyberspace too! LOL what a joke... The TSA are bigger terrorists than anything the internet could ever brew.

I only hope that you will pay extra attention to what is going on.  Don't believe everything you hear especially from mainstream news (who are all bought and paid for by those same few running our government), but just pay attention.  Be aware, be informed, and stay intelligent.  Just remember that history always repeats itself:

"America will never be destroyed from the outside.  If we falter and lose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves"
--Abraham Lincoln

So now I leave you with a song in dedication of our Independence Day.  This is my all time favorite rendition of The Star Spangled Banner:

Have a wonderful weekend, loves!

Fresh

Fresh_1 Fresh_2 Fresh_3 Fresh_4 Fresh_5 Silk blouse: BCBG
Cargos: Zara
Leather quilted purse: Vintage
Peep toe leather oxfords: Seychelles
Lips: Mac lipstick in "Chatterbox"

I was unsure about this blouse at first.  I thought it was pretty and different, but I didn't fall in love with it until I wore it out.  It is unbelievably comfortable and perfect for a casual day or for running errands.  A long sleeve silk blouse (especially this one) is an easy way to add a bit of elegance to a simple outfit.

Have a fantastic Monday!  It's almost the 4th of July! :D
